We are proud to share that Cordia at Grand Traverse Commons’ CEO and Founder, Karen Anderson, has been nominated for the 2024 Grand Traverse Region Community Builder Award presented by Cunningham-Limp. This award honors leaders who have built, improved or creatively utilized a space that has significantly enhanced the Grand Traverse Region.
The award’s Nominee Spotlight has this to say about Anderson:
“Karen Anderson’s transformative leadership as the CEO of Cordia at Grand Traverse Commons has revitalized the historic site into a vibrant community hub. Recognizing the untapped potential of the Grand Traverse Commons, Anderson spearheaded a revolutionary placemaking effort, leveraging her years of community building experience and expertise. Under her compassionate and fearless guidance, Cordia has become a beacon of inclusivity and engagement, offering seniors opportunities to lead meaningful lives within a supportive environment.
“Through initiatives like the Tuesday Forum and Common Ground Dinners, Anderson fostered a culture of dialogue, understanding, and connection among residents and staff. These gatherings provided a platform for open-minded discussions on local, regional, national, and global issues, bridging divides and nurturing authentic friendships. The physical space of Cordia, particularly the north end of historic Building 50, serves as a constant source of inspiration, fostering creativity, healing, and personal growth. Anderson’s vision and dedication have transformed Cordia into more than just a residence; it’s a thriving community where individuals flourish, bonds deepen, and the power of collective goodwill uplifts all who call it home.”
Anderson and fellow nominees were honored at a reception on June 6 in Traverse City.
