Our Building
Cordia at Grand Traverse Commons is housed in the north end of a magnificently revived, Victorian Italianate building, part of the largest historic preservation project in Michigan history. Originally constructed under the auspices of the renowned Dr. Kirkbride, the Cordia community has thirteen-foot ceilings, soaring windows, southern exposure, views of an arboretum and park, spires, dormers, and grand porches.
Three quarters of Cordia’s 115,000 square feet are devoted to private residences; the remaining 30,000 square feet are designed to support community life.
These artfully designed spaces include:
- a library and computer center
- a formal dining room
- pub
- piano lounge
- fitness center
- an artisan center and classroom for hands-on projects
- TV room with reclined seating
- sixty-five-seat Theater, equipped with a hearing loop
- billiards/game areas
- a salon and spa
- living room with a fireplace
- covered porches reminiscent of a grand hotel
- a courtyard featuring a dining patio, fire pit, and gardening areas.
