Cordia marks one year of Dividat exergaming training
A year ago, Cordia added a unique “Mind + Body = Movement” program designed to improve mobility, reduce falls and enhance cognitive function amongst our Members.
The program, which utilizes the Swiss-manufactured Dividat Senso exergaming machine, offers fun and interactive fitness training that is designed to connect the mind and the body through simultaneous physical and cognitive exercises.
“Strengthening the mind-body connection is important for all of us at any age and that is exactly what the Dividat accomplishes for our Members,” says Cordia CEO, Karen Anderson.
Cordia Members participating in the program will start with an eight-week training program where they will train on a pre-determined set of exergames, playing on the machine three times a week for 15 minutes each. This initial training plan is focused on the following goals:
- Raise awareness and bring best practices to improve overall health and wellbeing while reducing fall risk.
- Improve cognitive health and reaction time, build confidence and enable engagement in ongoing wellness activities.
- Use standardized tests, including the Stroop Test, using the Dividat Senso for pre- and post-training assessment comparisons.
- Increase daily activity level and improve physical and mental capacities in ways that foster independence.
After the initial eight weeks, each individual can build their own personalized fitness plan from the 18+ games offered, allowing Members to be challenged and progress at their own pace.
The Results
Statistically, our results speak for themselves. After the initial eight-week program, on average Cordia’s participants have improved their physical reaction time by 13% and have decreased decision errors by 55%. More importantly, participants report positive impacts on their day to day lives via greater balance control, increased ability to perform certain physical and cognitive tasks and greater confidence in their overall movement.
“We are always looking for new ways to use technology and innovation to the benefit of our Members and the Dividat Senso technology has proven itself to be an innovative and fun tool,” says Anderson.
The Dividat Senso can be especially helpful for those who have suffered strokes or been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or cognitive memory impairment, she adds.
“In those instances, it can be life changing.”
Cordia offers ongoing training and oversight on the Dividat Senso to any Member wanting to venture into exergaming. It is yet another tool in Cordia’s arsenal to support our Members’ desire for well-being and independence.
